Handyman work is the multi-skilled trade discipline of carrying out small to medium domestic and commercial jobs that do not individually justify a specialist call-out, including flat-pack assembly, shelf and TV mounting, door hanging, picture hanging, minor plumbing (washers, tap repairs, toilet adjustments), minor electrical (light-fitting changes, switch replacements), painting touch-ups, fence repairs, and general repairs. The economic logic is that a single skilled person with a transit van and a comprehensive toolkit can knock out a list of 3–5 jobs in a single visit, which is dramatically cheaper than booking five separate specialist trades.
The line between handyman and specialist work is regulatory. Anything regulated under Part P (fixed electrical wiring), Gas Safe (gas appliances), or Building Regulations (structural changes) cannot legally be done by a handyman: it needs a registered specialist. IKEA, Argos, Wayfair, John Lewis, B&Q: wardrobes, beds, desks, dining tables, shelving units, garden furniture. Most flat-pack jobs take 60–120 minutes per major item. No wobbly legs, no leftover screws.
Wall-mounted TVs, floating shelves, heavy mirrors, kitchen wall units. We check the wall type (brick, stud, dot-and-dab), use appropriate fixings (toggle bolts, masonry anchors, stud screws), and run cable management as part of the job.
New internal doors, replacement handles and hinges, doors that catch or do not close properly, lock fitting and replacement, draught-proofing strips. Most door jobs complete in 60–120 minutes.
Dripping taps, washer replacements, loose toilet seats, slow-flushing cisterns, light-fitting changes, switch and socket replacements (where Part P does not apply). For anything more complex we book a qualified plumber or electrician from our team.
Touch-up painting, hanging pictures and shelves, fitting curtain rails and blinds, fixing skirting and architrave, filling holes and small repairs: the snagging-list jobs that build up over time.
Regular maintenance visits for landlords and managing agents, including tenant change-over snagging, scheduled checks, minor repairs, fence and gate work, exterior touch-ups. Often combined with our PPM contract service for multi-property portfolios.

If a job turns out to need a Gas Safe engineer or Part P-registered electrician, we bring in our Gas Safe registered or NICEIC-registered partner. No "find someone else for that bit" moment. We handle the handoff internally.
